Policy on Creating Operational Guidelines for Forums of NJSNA


Operational guidelines for Forums of the New Jersey State Nurses Association shall address the following components/statements:

  1. The Name of the Forum
  2. Statement of Purpose:  this section must begin with a statement that emphasizes the forums responsibility to promote the mission of NJSNA.
  3. Membership:  membership to the forum requires the RN to be a member of NJSNA.  The RN member shall not be required to be a member of any other organization/association.
  4. Leadership:  this section will list the positions of leadership of the forum, how each is selected to serve, and the duration of each term.
  5. Meetings:  reference should also be made in this section as to who will lead the meetings and who will record the meetings.  There must also exist a uniform statement that all meetings are run according to Rober's Rules of Order.
  6. Financial Considerations:
    • money collected by a forum may only be collected to purchase refreshments, copies and supplies
    • excess program money from sponsors may be used by the forum for purposes congruent with the mission of the forum and NJSNA and must be guided by written policy approved by the forum members.


  1. Operational guidelines should be no longer than 2 pages in length.
  2. The leadership terms of office should be for only one year and no person shall serve more than 2 consecutive terms in the same office.
