"Reach One, Teach One"
Sylvia C. Edge Endowment Fund

Sylvia C. Edge, RN, MA was one of the first African Americans to receive a Baccalaureate degree in nursing from Rutgers University. She was the first African American in New Jersey to become a Dean of a Nursing program. As a professional nurse with clinical experience in acute care and community settings, in addition to teaching experiences in medical/surgical, psychiatric mental health and contemporary nursing Edge developed a passion for nursing education. This passion led to a Governor's appointment to the New Jersey Board of Nursing, where she served as President, Secretary and Treasurer; her election as a member of NJSNA Board of Directors; and her leadership role as the NJ Council of Associate Degree Programs' first African American Chairperson. Edge retired from Passaic County Community College where she served as the Director of the nursing program. She also served as an independent consultant for nursing education, accreditation and curriculum design.

She mentored countless nursing students, helping them to graduate. Tok know her was to love her. She is highly revered as an ICON, TRAILBLAZER, LEADER AND HEROINE for her tireless kindness, never ending support, numerous accomplishments and her true spirit of "Reach One, Teach One".

Since 2007, the Sylvia C. Edge Endowment Fund Board has been diligently working toward the goal of reaching $100,000.00 to provide an annual scholarship to a qualified nursing student. While the dream has been realized there's still much more to be done and the fund needs your support.
